Crowns & Bridges
Crowns, also known as caps are coverings on top of natural teeth. They serve many purposes, including strengthening and improving the appearance of discolored or poorly shaped natural teeth, supporting a tooth with a large filling, protecting a weak tooth from breaking, and restoring teeth that are already broken.
A bridge is a fixed (or cemented) appliance that can be looked at as multiple crowns connected together, “bridging” a gap between healthy teeth where a tooth or teeth were lost. Bridges are permanent fixtures and do not need to be removed.
Veneers
Veneers are thin, custom-made shells that are used to cover the front side of your teeth to correct a stained, poorly shaped, or crooked appearance. Traditionally, veneers are made of porcelain for the most natural looking, longest lasting, and most esthetic option. They can also be made of composite resin. There are most certainly differences in situations where one type is used over the other. Just ask one of our dental professionals when you are in for your next visit.
Dentures
Dentures are used to restore your smile by using removable appliances that replace missing teeth. Dentures provide ease when eating and speaking and also benefit your appearance and health.
There are two different types of dentures – partial and complete. Partials are used when only some of your natural teeth are missing. Complete dentures are used when all natural teeth are missing.
Dentures should be cared for just like your normal teeth. They should be rinsed and brushed to remove any loose food or debris. Your gums should also be cleaned thoroughly. When not wearing your dentures, put them in a safe place covered in water to keep them from warping.
